A Institute for Healthcare Disparities at NUMC

Welcome to the IHD blogsite which I hope will entertain discussion about healthcare issues in general and issues germane to healthcare equity and disparities in particular. Most immediately, I am curious as to how the various members of the NUMC family feel about the rather vigorous, and sometimes nefarious, debate about healthcare reform. Pro? Con? Neutral? Why? Concerns?

Should 50 million uninsured Americans be held hostage because of conflicts among the stakeholders? Why is it that 6 lobbyists are assigned to each senator and representative in Washington? Is that an invitation to fair play or to politica a usual? We see, real-time, the consequences on no insurance or underinsurance among our patients on a daily basis. A clear and commited focus on social justice should not be diluted or distorted by mistruths.
